Normally I am the queen of Take All The Pictures and Heather is the one who forgets, but this last trip I… didn’t do quite as well as I could have… with taking pictures of things. Things like all the snacks we ate – whether during Food & Wine or just in general. I did take pictures, I just didn’t take pictures of everything… there really wasn’t even enough to do a specific-themed post (like the best Magic Kingdom snacks, or the best Animal Kingdom snacks, for example), but I definitely wanted to share some of these. So you get to join me on a random look at some random snacks. Bon appétit!
1. Pork and Vegetable Egg Roll
This is a tried & true favorite. Every trip, I have to have a Tipsy Ducks in Love from the Joy of Tea kiosk in the China pavilion, and every trip I also get the pork and vegetable egg rolls from the same place. Well, every trip except for when they don’t have any (ahem, July 2017).
2. Ropa Vieja Empanada
Okay, this is a Food & Wine offering (which ends November 12, the day of this posting), but it was delicious. The whole point, to my mind, of Food & Wine Festival is to try everything, but I was willing to risk not having room for things because I wanted to keep going back for more of these. In fact, I would go so far as to say this might be the single best thing I ate on this entire trip!
3. Orange Lollipop
Somehow Little J suckered me into buying the sucker lollipop. Is there actually a difference between a sucker and a lollipop? What do you call them? Sorry… anyway, these are classic Disney treats that are available evvvverywhere. The boys tend to sucker us in every trip honestly, and then they can’t even finish them. Its a good thing I think they’re tasty too!
4. Jalapeño Popper Hot Diggity Dog
Somehow I made it to the 10 year mark on going to Disney without ever eating at Casey’s Corner. We decided to remedy that situation this trip. Mom and Little J went boring, but I decided to try the hot dog of the month: the Jalapeno Popper Hot Diggity Dog. I was not disappointed. I know, I know. It looks way too much. It looks insanely unhealthy. It looks… kinda disgusting, to be honest. But no. No, it was not disgusting. This was amazing. I picked up the poppers and at them separately from the hot dog, but everything else worked together beautifully. It was crazy super messy with the nacho cheese sauce and ranch dripping off with every bite, but that’s why there are napkins, right? I like that they didn’t skimp on the bacon bits either.
5. Jalapeño Cream Cheese Stuffed Pretzel
Since February of 2015, if you asked me what my favorite Disney snack was, I was almost guaranteed to answer “a jalapeño cheese stuffed pretzel.” I think I might have actually cried when I went back to Animal Kingdom and they weren’t available anymore. Well, my mom and I were at Epcot heading to Taste Track to pick up a cronut when I happened to scan the sign on a food cart and saw JALAPEÑO CHEESE PRETZELS! Full stop, I bolted across the path and ordered on. Unfortunately, the one that I got wasn’t so great… it had been sitting out for a while and the jalapeño cream cheese was lacking. I didn’t even care though, I was so excited and devoured it anyway.
6. Cheeseburger Egg Rolls
WOWZA! This was delicious. The wrapper was so crispy and perfect, but the filling was ooey-gooey and cheesy. The flavor was mouth-bursting and I could have eaten a half dozen easily. I’m starting to drool again just thinking about them actually. Now, the cheeseburger egg rolls were out in Adventureland for a while and then quietly disappeared. They’re back now, but obviously that means they could go away again without warning… but if you can get your hands on these, I definitely recommend you try them!
7. Churro Ice Cream Sandwich
Anyway, this was definitely a must try, so Michael stepped up to do the taste test. I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned it before, but a churro is Michael’s favorite Disney snack, his #1 must have, so duh! His final assessment was basically “tasty, but I’ll stick to regular churros in the future.” By the end, it was a super soupy mess of ice cream.
