Big J’s Favorite MK Rides

{Katie: I asked Big J to do a post (or 2 or few) to give a Disney perspective from a teenage boy. Sometimes when I talk about Disney people say things like “oh I would go but I have sons, they wouldn’t want to do all that princess stuff.” Disney isn’t all princess though!}

sword in the stone

Hello everyone, Big J here. I am writing about my five favorite rides from the view of a teenage boy. I will have the name of the ride, why I like it, what type of ride it is, and other facts about the ride. I have been going to Disney since I was two, so some of these rides are “kiddy” rides. I hope you enjoy the list and the rides within the list.

5. It’s A Small World

It’s A Small World is a type of water ride. It is a good ride for putting children going down for a ride. I think it is a great ride. It has everything a little kid likes, slowness and rocking. The music is, almost too, catchy. Almost every time I go to Magic Kingdom I complain about it, saying I don’t want to go on it. Do I go on it? Of course I do. An interesting fact about it is it was in the New York World Fair in 1964. If you are not a fan of dolls, this ride is not for you. It has about 300 dolls in the ride. The last fact about the ride is there is at least one doll in the Disney World and Disneyland ride that looks like Mary Blair, the artist of the ride. My brother, Little J, hates the song. I will be honest, I trick him into doing things by threatening to sing the song.

4. Haunted Mansion

The Haunted Mansion is a slow-moving ride. You travel in a “coffin” through a, you guessed it, Haunted Mansion. You go through different rooms and hallways. At one point of the ride you go through a cemetery. The ride is not a scary ride despite its name. I love the ride. I recommend you get a Fastpass if you intend to ride it during the day for it is inside and airconditioned. I like the ride because I enjoy how the more you go on it the more you notice the little things. One thing I noticed is that the voice of narrating the tour is also the voice of “Tony the Tiger” and he sings “You’re A Mean One Mr. Grinch” from the animated movie. He is the amazing voice actor Thurl Ravenscroft.

3. Splash Mountain

Splash Mountain is a true water ride. You may not get nearly as wet as you would in Kali River Rapids. I love the ride. It has wonderful music. I often stand on the bridge next to the drop. Yes, there is a drop. That is one of the reasons the ride has a height requirement of 40’’. This ride does offer the switching off option Disney has to offer. The story behind the ride is the Adventures of Brer Rabbit as he escapes Brer Fox and Brer Bear’s EVIL schemes. I grew up on that ride. My family and I say, sometimes out loud and sometimes in our head, ponchos are for wimps.

2. Space Mountain

Space Mountain is a true rollercoaster. It has a height requirement of 44’’. This means Little J cannot ride it. The ride is in a large, open, dark room. I think it is fun. I do have an irrational fear of putting my hands up because it is so dark I am afraid I would hit something. It was the worlds first indoor rollercoaster. It sits about 15 feet below ground so it would not take away any of the splendor of Cinderella’s Castle.

1.    Jungle Cruise

The best of the best. My favorite ride. It matches me so well. The jokes are so bad they are good. All the staff is super funny. The ride is as you travel through different rivers such as the Amazon, Irrawaddy, Mekong, and Nile rivers. If you don’t believe me, well, you’re in de-Nile. Many of the jokes on there are very rememberable. One of the most famous is “The 8th Wonder of the World, The Back Side of Water.” I love the ride. I believe that you should try to get a Fastpass for it because the lines fill up fast.

This is my list of my top 5 rides in the Disney’s Magic Kingdom. I hope you all enjoyed it. Thank you, and have a magical day.
