magic kingdom rides

Liberty Square

  • Haunted Mansion (slow ride): any height
    • FastPass+ available
    • Disney rates Haunted Mansion for “all ages”. This iconic ride is awesome, from the queue all the way to the very end of the ride. If you’re in the standby line you’ll get to walk through an interactive cemetery and create haunting melodies. Inside, you’re shown into the Portrait Chamber before being led to the foyer where you board a Doom Buggy to tour the Mansion. This is a smooth ride, but it does swivel at times and even go backwards in one part. The motion is fine for all ages, but it is a dark and ‘scary’ (relative term there) ride that some children might not enjoy. We love it! There are puns galore, and I’ve always felt this is more amusing than scary.

We appear to have picked up a hitchhiking ghost!
  • Liberty Square Riverboat (slow ride): any height
    • Disney rates the Riverboat for “all ages”. Liberty Belle is a reproduction of the steam-powered paddle wheelers that used to carry passengers up and down the Mississippi River. This boat has 4 decks: Pilothouse, Promenade Deck, Sun Deck, and Main Deck. There is limited seating on all 4 decks. Once the boat casts off you will go on a half-mile tour around Tom Sawyer Island.
    • Accessibility: may remain in wheelchair/ECV
    • Children under the age of 7 years must be accompanied by a person age 14 years or older

Frontierland

  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (thrill ride): 40 inch minimum height
    • FastPass+ available
    • Disney rates Big Thunder Mountain for “kids, tweens, teens, adults”. I absolutely adore this ride. Overall it is pretty gentle, for a roller coaster, although some of the turns are somewhat sharp. Big J has loved it from the first time he rode it, but Little J went on it only once and refused to go again.
    • Accessibility: must transfer from wheelchair/ECV
    • Children under the age of 7 years must be accompanied by a person age 14 years or older
    • Rider switch is allowed
    • Service animals are not permitted on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
  • Splash Mountain (thrill ride with big drops): 40 inch minimum height
    • FastPass+ available
    • Disney rates Splash Mountain for “kids, tweens, teens, adults”. As the name suggests, this is a water ride, and you will get splashed – where you sit wont keep you dry, it will simply determine if you catch a little spray (back of the log) or if you get soaked (front). Board a hollow log and float along with Br’er Rabbit as he goes off in search of his “laughing place.” But watch out for Br’er Fox and Br’er Bear… when they catch you, you’ll only escape if they cast you into the briar patch… aka when you go down the 5-story waterfall drop!

Adventureland

  • Jungle Cruise (slow ride): any height
    • FastPass+ available
    • Disney rates Jungle Cruise for “all ages”, and it totes is. Jungle Cruise is a slow water ride, but not the kind of water ride where you get wet. The biggest danger is being cheesed to death, and luckily (or sadly, depending on your viewpoint) the littlest ones won’t get the jokes. Hands down the Jungle Cruise is my favorite ride in the Magic Kingdom. Puns are my jam! Heck, I quote Jungle Cruise lines to my boys on a daily basis. You absolutely have to check it out… and let me tell you, if you aren’t a fan the first time around because the jokes maybe fall flat… ride again with a different Skipper. Some people just aren’t as funny, or maybe they’re still in training. Give the ride another shot!

  • The Magic Carpets of Aladdin (slow ride): any height
    • FastPass+ available
    • Disney rates the Magic Carpets for “all ages” and I agree completely. The Magic Carpets is a slow ride that raises you into the air and spins. Think carnival ride… This is not a wild ride at all, but some people still might get a little sick on it.
    • Accessibility: must transfer from ECV to wheelchair
    • Children under the age of 7 years must be accompanied by a person age 14 years or older magic_carpets
  • Pirates of the Caribbean (slow ride): any height
    • FastPass+ available
    • Disney rates Pirates of the Caribbean for “all ages”. It is a slow, smooth indoor water ride. I don’t disagree that all ages can go on it, but you should note that it is dark and there are some “scary” moments such as a ship firing cannons at your boat. My boys love it and have never been scared but some children might find it mildly disturbing.
