walt disney world welcomes dogs!

Guests at Walt Disney World have long been able to bring their furry friends, but they’ve had to board them at Best Friends Pet Care. Today, Sunday, October 15, Disney is starting a trial program allowing guests at select hotels to bring their dogs with them – actually with them, like in the room and all.

If you are staying at Art of Animation, Port Orleans Riverside, Yacht Club, or the Cabin’s at Fort Wilderness, you have the option of keeping your dog with you in your room! This will cost you $50 per night, except at the Yacht Club, where it will cost you $75 per night. Certain areas and floors of these hotels are being designated as “pet friendly” while the rest of the hotel remains pet free for those with allergies or other concerns (like me – I’m a little bit afraid of dogs. I have to admit, even though I am a little bit afraid of dogs personally, I think this is a good move on Disney’s part).

Upon checking in to your hotel, your dog(s) will receive Pluto’s Welcome Kit, which will include: a mat, bowls, a pet ID tag, courtesy plastic disposable bags, puppy pads and dog walking maps. There will also be a Pluto “Do Not Disturb” door hanger to let Cast Members know there is a dog in the room.

Guests with dogs will be able to ride the Magical Express, Minnie Vans, and Port Orleans & Fort Wilderness buses, but the dogs must be contained in a pet carrier. Dogs will not be allowed on the monorail or any boats at this time.

There are daycare options available at Best Friends Pet Care for guests who do not want to leave their dogs in the room alone all day.

And of course we except new pet merchandise to be coming soon!

If you have any questions at all about the new pet policies, please contact Disney direction at 407-W-DISNEY (407-934-7639). DVC Members are asked to contact Member Services at 800-800-9800.
